I've been looking ionto this quite thoroughly recently and this is the bottom line: all super autos make some cappuccinos and lattes, but the quality of the espresso which comes into them is nothing special. Compared to other super-automatics I've tried, Jura makes the best espresso.

However, if you're willing to do that, then I'd say Jura is the sweet spot - it is still relatively affordable and makes good coffee and is really comfortable to use.

These things offer comfort you can't achieve with a manual coffee machine, but you have to sacrifice a part of the quality of the espresso. But it takes time, especially if you're into milk stuff like cappuccinos etc. This is the way to get top quality coffee that a super-auto just can't beat. Overall we're really happy with it and feel like it's a relative steal from a cost standpoint.Īs many people could say, you have two choices when it comes to decent coffe machines.įirst, you could buy a proper coffe machine where you grind the coffee and tamp it manually. (so you can make a decaf in the evening if you want) If you're into milk-based coffee drinks, the system they use on this thing is pretty slick - much easier to clean than other automatics. (fill it with beans, water, and press a button to get a good cup of coffee or espresso) It has a "bypass chute" like the more expensive Jura's as well, which my wife and I both use frequently. From a feature standpoint, it's also very comparable. While I don't have the old Jura anymore to do a taste-test against, to me the quality of the coffee is on par with what I remember of our Jura. (and about 1/3 the price of the Jura S8 we were also eyeing) So far it's been excellent. (though prepared to if necessary) We ended up taking a chance on the Philips 3200 "LatteGo" machine, which was on sale a few weeks ago at a local Williams Sonoma. My wife and I had a Jura for roughly 15 years (the J9 Impressa) which recently died so, like you, we found ourselves in coffee machine research mode, hoping to avoid spending big $$ for another Jura.
